This is the reason why!Henry Sy Sr. who was the father of SM Malls in our country and known as the number 1 billionaire in the Philippines, Henry was the ambitious man in his youth, he wanted to be rich so bad so he tried so many businesses but many of them failed. Henry doesn't stop until one idea crossed his mind, he decided to build a small shoe store.
At first, the shoe store doesn't get people's attention and having a hard time to get a costume, meantime he noticed that the Mercury Drug who was been in business for so many years has many customers who come in and out on their store. So Henry approached the owner of the drug store and asked if he can rent a little space for his shoe shop. Unfortunately, they declined Henry's offer.
This incident Mark Henry's mind and promised himself he will never embarrass himself again and he will not Mercury Drug enter to his life in the future once he became rich.
The dream of Henry became reality in 1958 and his shoe store grow and established a shoe store in Quiapo, Manila, the 1st ever SM Mall in November of 1972.
No one would imagine that these things suffered by the current richest man in the Philippines, maybe this is one of the reasons why he works harder to achieve his goal. Now he is currently having numerous department stores in the country. He even have malls now in other country, he owns 6 malls in China and 1 SM Mall in Guam.
